“Roll ‘n Soul” takes a glide through history and represents Black culture through movement.
JSchool Journals, the award-winning event hosted by Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication, will host its first bi-annual screening this year on Saturday, April 20, at 12 p.m.
Various documentaries will be presented. Each film was shot, edited, and produced by the university’s documentary and film students courtesy of FAMU Professor and Jschool Journals director Kenneth Jones.
“Roll ‘n Soul” tells the story of the rollerskating scene in Tallahassee. The film highlights the various skate groups formed within the city, primarily populated by Black individuals. It gives a behind-the-scenes look into the lives of some of the members of the groups and the relationships between them. The film also presents the historical background of Black roller skaters and their cultural influence and significance.
